SCALEplus assistance

The  SA magistrates judgments filed on the INTRANET site are now available in "html" format, due to assistance from David Grainger from SCALEplus.

The arrangement is a 'win-win' situation. I send our judgments to him, he converts them and keeps a copy to publish on the SCALEplus website and returns the converted document to me to be published on our web site.

Judgments

STATUTES - ACTS OF PARLIAMENT - INTERPRETATION

De Facto Relationships Act 1998, s.9(3) - Application for extension of time to institute proceedings - meaning of term ‘serious injustice’ - term considered in Van Jole v Cole [2000] NTSC 18 - the word ‘serious’ in context suggests weighty, grave or considerable - claim instituted eight months out of time - application granted - probable that had proceedings been instituted in time that they would not have been finalised to date because of litigation in Supreme Court with a third party relating to a property jointly purchased during course of relationship - disputes over chattels valued at about $10,000 and money in joint account of $12,000 - considerable wrong or unfairness will result if plaintiff loses her right to pursue this claim.

From the Intranet

Links (local link)

The Links page contains links to both legal and not legal sites in Australia and across the world.

One of the most interesting is a site which list electronic telephone directories from all over the world.

Commonwealth Search Warrants (local link)

During the course of 1999, we were fortunate enough, through efforts of Rosanne McInnes to obtain a copy of the electronic textbook used by the Commonwealth Crown on relation to Search Warrants. Rosanne converted it to 'html' and the document is available on our INTRANET.

Caseweek

Since the last of these newsletters, 2 issues of Caseweek have been released
Issue 1 No. 28 (local link) and
Issue 1 No. 29 (local link)

Web words

:) - The "smiley" symbol. Often used in e-mail to indicate humour or a tongue-in-cheek comment.

Netiquette - Internet Etiquette. A loose collection of rules describing what constitutes appropriate conduct on the Internet, particularly with regard to e-mail. I intend adding a few 'netiquette rules' to the newsletters.

A document about e-mail etiquette (local link) has been added to the Intranet site.
