Overseas Judicial Appointments

From time to time the Institute is advised of the possibility of appointments in overseas countries, usually developing countries, of serving or retired judicial officers.

The Institute also has direct contact with the Commonwealth Secretariat regarding appointments in Commonwealth developing countries.

The AIJA Board has resolved to list with any contact details any judicial positions which come to the notice of the Secretariat.

Invitation to submit expressions of interest to join the Australian Civilian Corps

AusAID is now seeking detailed expressions of interest from highly motivated and experienced technical specialists from the public and private sectors
to join the Australian Civilian Corps register (ACC).

The Government established the ACC in late 2009 as a ‘deployable public service’ – that is, a mechanism to enable the rapid deployment of civilian
specialists, generally for periods of three to twelve months, to countries experiencing or emerging from natural disasters or conflict.  ACC specialists will
function as development “reservists”, remaining in their regular employment until needed.  When deployed, they will have the status of Australian Government
officials employed under special legislation now before the Parliament.

The ACC will act as a much-needed bridge between emergency humanitarian response measures and long-term development programs.  Deployees will
often work in tandem with Australian or international military forces engaged in stabilisation and peace-building operations, or in post-disaster rehabilitation
and reconstruction.  They will be drawn from a wide range of specialisations including public sector management, electoral administration, budget strategy
and implementation, aid coordination, law and justice, essential services administration, agriculture and community development.

AusAID has already established an interim ACC capability of almost 50 personnel through targeted recruitment and training during 2010, and aims to build
a register of 500 trained personnel by 2014.  Suitably qualified and experienced specialists are encouraged to consider becoming involved in this innovative
whole-of-government initiative.

Further information on the ACC is available at www.ausaid.gov.au/acc/

Enquiries can be made by calling the team at Effective People on +61 2 6162 3530 or by email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Please lodge your detailed expression of interest, via the ACC website.
