DESIGN OBJECTIVES

To meet the requirements of all parties and the court a flexible design needed to be developed for the in-court system. The main objectives of the design was to accommodate the ability to;

  • combine public and private systems, and
  • access data from multiple computer platforms.
A complete range of services needed to be incorporated in the design, these included;
  • access to court records,
    in particular courtbook documents, and
  • transcript management.
Essentially the aim was the ability to conduct the hearing without the need to rely on paper.

A courtroom intranet was established to act as a means of access to the information on the court system. The use of the intranet resulted in a flexible system that was both easy use and understand. The court system's “Home Page” acted as a menu to all the information stored on the court system. Some parties also used private intranets to publish their information, with restricted access so the details could only be viewed by authorised participants.

The design was non product specific allowing;

  • combination of best breed products, and
  • use of personally preferred products and applications.
