The Rise and Rise of Diversionary Courts:

"Therapeutic Jurisprudence" or "Feelgood Law?"

Time: 5.00pm - 7.00pm

Date: Thursday, 3 May 2001

Venue: 1st Floor Adelaide Magistrates Court

(Access after 5pm will be via entrance near the Coroner’s Court, King William Street)

Professor Arie Frieberg, together with a panel of local magistrates, will discuss the philosophies underpinning diversionary courts in South Australia and their recent rise to prominence through the Aboriginal special interest court, the mental impairment court, the drug court and the family violence courts.

You are encouraged to attend, to make a donation and participate in a lively debate about past and future attempts at diversions from mainstream courts. The reasoning behind them, the results obtained, the dangers for the client and directions for the future.
